What People are Saying About Next2Friends

Community, Favorite / Featured, Fun With Next2Friends, News, Next2Friends, What People Are Saying 1 Comment »

This has been an exciting month at Next2Friends.  It began with our announcement that Next2Friends had developed the world’s first application for broadcasting live mobile video on the BlackBerry OS.  This was quickly followed by the release of Next2Friends Live for the BlackBerry Bold.  Since then we’ve seen a flurry of interest and activity.

The first large blog to break our news was Gizmodo, the highly trafficked gadget and tech blog.  Several others followed suit including JKOnTheRun, TheNextWeb, and dozens of others.

Next was a great article by Mike Butcher from TechCrunch around the BlackBerry Bold release.

AppAppeal, a web based application review site, also had some great things to say.

But perhaps the best part of all this activity is that we’re welcoming scores of new folks from around the world into our community.  It’s very exciting to watch this platform we’ve created become useful to people in all the ways we imagined it could.  One of our new members is Anthony Papillion, an enthusiastic tech writer and creator of CajunTechie.com.  He not only wrote a nice piece on Next2Friends he made a comment that really means a lot to us:

“Next2Friends has an incredible community that immediately makes you feel welcomed and comfortable - even when you’re a newbie making stupid mistakes.”

Sure the recent press is reaffirming but it’s really comments like these that act as our guide.  Our goal is and always has been to strengthen connections and build community through technology and if members are understanding and valuing the community we’ve built then we’re doing our job.  Thanks everyone and we’ll see you on Next2Friends!

Next2Friends Member of the Week

Community, Favorite / Featured, Fun With Next2Friends, Next2Friends, What People Are Saying 1 Comment »

We’ve gotten a slew of new signups this week, including continued activity from BlackBerry Pearl and Curve users, and now BlackBerry Bold users from around the world.  This week has capped off one of our biggest months yet!  So we thought it appropriate to highlight one of our newest members.  Jason1100 has his status posted as “HAPPY” and he should be, he’s a new father!  Such a great example of how Next2Friends allows you to share the most important moments of life.  Jason took us into the hospital in the moments after his daughter was born:

And here is another shot of his new daughter, Madalyn, sleeping. She looks quite content!

Keep the broadcasts coming Jason, congratulations to you and your beautiful new family!

Pongr is a free mobile price checking service.  It allows you to snap a photo of a product or text the name or UPC to the service and get a list of the best prices available on the web.  You can then purchase the item from your phone or turn to the sales associate in front of you and begin haggling your way to a better price!

While Taggle, Frontline’s Fitness Interactive Technology, and Minora’s 3D Camera are also nominees, we couldn’t find much information on them.  We’re looking forward to seeing what they have to share!

Flash Mob and the Next2Friends Members of the Week

Fun With Next2Friends, Next2Friends, Technology, Web / Tech, What People Are Saying 2 Comments »

Acid House Flash Mob Tonight

This week’s Member of the week was pretty simple to come by:

Smiley

Clearly the undisputed Member of the Week!  Why?  Smiley has made Next2Friends one of the exclusive places where he will be announcing the secret location of tonight’s Acid House Flashmob.   What’s Acid House?  What’s a Flashmob?  Good questions.  From Wikipedia:

Acid House is a sub-genre of house music that emphasizes a repetitive, hypnotic and trance-like style, with samples or spoken lines usually used rather than sung lyrics.”

Again from Wikipedia:

“A Flash Mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse.”

Ok, now that we all understand what we’re talking about, tonight, to mark the 20th anniversary of Acid House, at 6:20 GMT a group of people will be gathering Flash Mob style in central London to sing D-Mob’s, “We Call it Aciid”.  People will be encouraged to recreate the feel of a 1988 Acid House party.  Then at 6:30 GMT…it’s over!  Don’t believe us?  It was even reported in the UK’s Guardian blog by Jemima Kiss! And all of the action will be brought to you live on Next2Friends!  Be sure to tune in, and in the mean time check out this awesome video illustrating Smiley’s Acid House dance moves:

Next2Friends Media Coverage

News, Next2Friends, What People Are Saying No Comments »

Lately we’ve been getting some exciting coverage in the press that we thought we’d share with you.  First was a very favorable review by Paul Glazowski in Mashable following our announcement of Next2Friends Live 1.0. A pretty straight forward piece but from one of our favorite blogs so we were thrilled! Here’s a good quote from the article:

”…Next2Friends is pegged as having surpassed the average live-streaming service in terms of synchronous broadcasting and viewing.”

 picture-2.png

The other exciting piece that’s come down the pipe is by The Washington Post (.com).  Robert Andrews interviewed Next2Friends CEO Roy Shelton on various subjects ranging from our product offering to our soon-to-be-announced round of VC funding.  Here’s a great quote from that interview:

“‘We’re not just another one-trick pony,’ Shelton said - and, with such an array of services, that’s certainly the case. “
