Jobs 2.0: Using Social Media for Recruitment
Fun With Next2Friends, Next2Friends, Social Media Add commentsJobs 2.0
At Next2Friends we believe strongly that New Media enriches lives. Over the past couple of years Social Media’s place in the recruitment and hiring process has been hotly debated in HR circles. There are those that feel New Media, such as Video Resumes, should not be utilized because they can be discriminatory, lead to bias and are not equitable. Indeed, the endlessly cited example of how Aleksey Vayne turned himself into the laughing stock of Wall Street comes to mind, but plenty of others have voiced their opposition (here, here, here, here…the list goes on).
But there are plenty of indicators that the New Media does have a place in the future of recruitment. Dozens of Video Resume sites populate the web (HireVue, ResumeTube, CareerFairs, FutureResume, SavvyPaper to name a few and that doesn’t include already established employment sites that have added Social Media capability such as Monster) and everyone from Time Magazine to countless bloggers (here, here, here, here…again, the list goes on) have spoken on the added value of video in the hiring process. Indeed, New Media can create added dimensions to what was traditionally a pretty straight and sometimes flat process.
